** Data transfer allotments: Each level of internet above includes the amount of data transfer indicated measured in Gigabytes (GB). The data transfer allotments are increased regularly, based on usage patterns, to ensure the number of customers who go over their allotments remains under 10%. Additional GB of data transferred beyond the allotment is billed at $1.00 per GB if not purchased at a discount before the end of the billing period. The percentage of Knology customers charged for extra data transfer beyond their allotment was 6.1% in April 2009. If a customer does go over their allotment and is surprised by a charge on their bill, we normally credit the first and second occurrences of overage provided the customer contacts us to review possible causes for the overage so we can work together to avoid additional charges in the future.

If a customer needs more data transfer than is alloted they can customize the amount of additional GB of data transfer they would like for as low as $0.25 per Gigabyte for a block of 100 Gigs or $0.50 per Gigabyte for a block of 20 Gigs. Customers also have the choice to upgrade to a faster level of internet service with a higher data transfer allotment at any time. Knology does not charge change-fees when upgrading or downgrading service.

Data transfer allotments allow Knology to offer higher speed service with lower prices. Unlimited, open usage plans offered by other providers typically employ network controls to slow down the high usage customers. Knology encourages consumers to be informed about their use of high speed internet and respect bandwidth resources through responsible self-policing of their network usage. Hidden viruses, unsecured wireless routers and open-upload file sharing are the leading causes of overages and they have little or no value to the customer paying the bill.
